How a Remote Company Became a Great Place To Work - Reason #3

Matthew Kilmurry

This is the third in a series of blog posts that will highlight ten reasons that have contributed to making Intrinsic Digital a great place to work.

How did Intrinsic Digital become a Great Place to Work?

100% of our employees said we are a Great Place To Work US compared to 57% of employees at a typical U.S.-based company.

Across the board, our employees said:

✔ 100% Management makes its expectations clear.

✔ 100% I can ask management any reasonable question and get a straight answer.

✔ 100% Management is approachable, easy to talk with.

✔ 100% Management is competent at running the business.

✔ 100% Management hires people who fit in well here.Great Place To Work

How is this possible in a remote company?

Reason #3: Core Mission

Have you ever worked for a company where you felt like you were just a number? Or maybe you had no clear vision of what your goals were or how you should be taking on a project? We’ve all been there, and at Intrinsic Digital, this is exactly what I want to avoid. When I decided to start my own company, I wanted to create an environment where employees felt a real sense of direction and defined goals.

I researched many org structures and finally decided to model my business after the EOS Worldwide solution. Utilizing this system lays out clearly defined roles and keeps us on track on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis.

How is this possible?

We use the  V/TO or the Vision Traction Organizer which lays out the following:

  • Core Focus
A defined sense of what we are, and what we do.
  • Core Values
A “timeless set of guiding principals”. (See Blog About Core Values here)
  • 1 Year Goal
What our objectives are for just this year.
  • 3 Year Target
What we want our company to look like in the next 3 years.
  • 10 Year Target
    Our “larger than life goal.”
  • Quarterly Rocks
3 to 7 of our most important objectives to be completed in 90 days.
  • Ongoing Issues List
Any and all obstacles that stand in the way of achieving our goals.

Laying out our vision this way helps everyone stay on the same page and understand where this company is intended to go, not just now, but years from now. EOS compares this to using Google Maps on your phone to get you where you need to go with clear direction and no roadblocks. When everyone understands the goal and company vision, we can all align our efforts toward them, together. This framework is the compass of our company, defining what’s important, who owns it and exactly what success looks like.
